How to Add Additional Place of Business in GST

If you open a new shop, office, or warehouse for your business, you must tell the GST department about it. This is called adding an additional place of business in GST. You can do this online in just a few steps. In this guide, you’ll learn how to add a new business location to your GST account quickly and easily.

What is an Additional Place of Business in GST?

An Additional Place of Business refers to any location other than the principal place where a registered person carries out business-related activities like storage, manufacturing, or distribution. Adding this to your GST registration is mandatory if operations are carried out from more than one location in the same state.

When Should You Add an Additional Place of Business?

You must add an additional place of business in GST under the following conditions:

  • You open a new office, warehouse, or shop in the same state
  • You move operations to a new location while keeping the old one
  • You operate from multiple locations and haven’t updated GST records
  • You’re expanding to a new area under the same GSTIN (not interstate)

Failing to update this may lead to penalties and notices from the GST department.

Documents Required to Add Additional Place of Business

Here’s a list of documents you’ll typically need to upload during the process:

  • Proof of ownership or rental agreement (for the new business place)
  • Electricity bill or property tax receipt
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the owner (if applicable)
  • Photograph of the premises (sometimes asked)
